The house of Daskalidès
The beginning
In 1931, a Greek couple Daskalidès-Kestikidès opens a confectionary in the centre of Ghent.
Their home made pralines are of such a quality that Daskalidès quite fast belongs to one of the
most famous chocolatiers. The number of tearooms and chocolate shops rises steadily.
During the sixties he followed the advise of his son Jean and devoted himself to the production
of pralines for connoisseurs only. As of 1985 and under the supervision of Jean Daskalidès,
the luxury sweets conquer the markets abroad. All the more so, the knowledge of the house of
Daskalidès is confirmed by the unbridled success of the exquisite pralines.
Tradition
55 years later, Alexander Daskalidès gives a new impetus to the house. In 1987, Daskalidès is
rewarded in France with the prestigious Laurier d’Or de la Qualité thanks to the exceptional
quality of chocolate, the beautiful shape and the exquisite taste. They maintain the image of art
for connoisseurs only.
A new millennium
A new start. Daskalidès is launched as being the reference in the world of the chocolate. Key
words remain Chocolate and Quality, but more attention is paid to the Daskalidès style.
To the range are added affordable luxury products. A new shopconcept is installed in the
worldwide network of Daskalidès shops. The modern style of the house also means a new look for
packaging, an enforced communication and a uniform design of the Daskalidès shops.
A promising future
Daskalidès finds a perfect match between tradition and modernization. The house is building up
a strong brand image. Taking a glance at the past and with a view to the future, Daskalidès
maintains the image “for connoisseurs only”.
